The SAHF MASAC Educational Symposium 2026 takes place on 13–14 November 2026 at the Premier Hotel O.R. Tambo, Johannesburg, under the theme Thinking Outside the Box. Hosted by the South African Haemophilia Foundation’s Medical and Scientific Advisory Council (MASAC), it brings together the healthcare teams who care for people with bleeding disorders in South Africa.
Mr. M.C Sefojane (Chairperson SAHF) – and Prof. Jaco Joubert (Chairperson SAHF MASAC)
Every year, a question sits quietly behind the work we do at the South African Haemophilia Foundation: how do we keep making care better for people living with bleeding disorders? Better diagnosis. Better treatment. Better support, closer to home. The answer is rarely one big breakthrough. More often, it comes from people in a room together, sharing what they’ve learned, challenging old assumptions, and thinking differently about familiar problems.
That’s exactly what the SAHF MASAC Educational Symposium is for. And we’re delighted to share that it’s back for 2026.

This year’s theme is Thinking Outside the Box, an invitation to look beyond the usual ways of doing things and explore fresh ideas in bleeding disorders care.
What the symposium is — and why it matters to all of us
The symposium is hosted by SAHF’s Medical and Scientific Advisory Council, known as MASAC. It brings together the people who care for our community: haematologists, nurses, physiotherapists, social workers, researchers and others who form the multidisciplinary teams behind good haemophilia care across South Africa.
It might sound like an event “for the doctors.” But the truth is that every conversation at the symposium eventually finds its way back to the people who matter most, patients and families. When the professionals who treat bleeding disorders learn from one another, stay current with new thinking, and build relationships across hospitals and provinces, the whole community feels the benefit. Stronger knowledge in the room means stronger care in the clinic.
The symposium has been part of South Africa’s haemophilia story for a long time, with a history that stretches back to 1995. Over the years it has grown into a trusted space for learning and collaboration, and a reminder that nobody in this community works alone.

A foundation built on care, education and support
SAHF has been advocating for the bleeding disorders community since 1970. Our mission is simple to say and serious to live up to: to ensure that people with bleeding disorders have access to appropriate, quality care, education and support. The symposium is one of the clearest expressions of that mission, education that ripples outward, reaching far beyond the two days it runs.
What happens next
The full programme and registration details are still to come, and we’ll share them as soon as everything is confirmed. For now, the most helpful thing you can do is simple:
- Save the date — 13–14 November 2026.
- Follow us so you’re the first to hear when the programme and registration open.
- Spread the word to anyone in your circle who’d want to be part of it.
We’re looking forward to gathering again this November, and to seeing where a little outside-the-box thinking can take us.
